Your Media Your Future

At our first meeting for our event in May I was unable to attend because I was taking my boyfriend to the airport. My wonderful classmates however sent me the meeting minutes keeping me up to date with the details and any decisions made in my absence.
It was decided to use the performance space in the Music department for the event and to make the theme of the event 'to educate, inform and enthuse 16-20 year olds in career prospects in the media industry'.
It was also decided that the event would run for 3 hours and include a strong interactive element, with computers running short films on specific job roles such as camera person or sound person or director. Display boards showing more jobs and their descriptions, and to book four speakers from different parts of the media world to give talks and showing some of their work. It was also suggested that we employ actors to perform a few humorous pieces on job interviews or the process of filming.
The budget was discussed and we were informed by Sadie that we could have some money from the enrollment budget as long as we can show were are encouraging BTEC students to continue with their education at Weston College. Sarah Clark had approached Alice Miller from North Somerset Council to find out if there was any money available through them, she was referred on to another person who could possibly make up to £750 available to us for the event.
Roles for the pre production of the event were discussed and jobs handed out.

There is much to do!

I feel as if my role within this project might take the shape of producer. I seem to find this role a natural and easy place to be. I can manage people well and have good communication skills. I think a natural tenacity gives me the ability to follow through with tasks and I really enjoy being in charge I have to say! Although I have never felt that my fellow students consider this to be a problem, on the contrary actually. I am sure they value my strengths just as much as I value theirs.
